One of the most embarrassing scalp conditions for both men and women is baldness and thinning hair. Fortunately a great deal of research has been done in this area, and there are now a number of treatments available which have had varying levels of success. Once you find the right treatment for you, there is a real chance to make progress in fighting this condition.

Men

If you decide to have a consultation with a trichological clinic or specialist, the first thing they will hope to determine is the cause of your baldness or thinning hair. In men, it is commonly a result of an abundance of a particular hormone, dihydrotestosterone (DHT). This hormone is the primary reason for androgenic alopecia or male pattern baldness, and there are two particular treatments – Propecia and Minoxdil – which block this hormone without any detrimental effects to the rest of the body.

These treatments, when combined with scalp therapy in the form of stimulation, ultra violet and infra red therapy, laser therapy, massage and vitamin supplements, can reverse the effects of baldness.

Women

In women, thinning and baldness can be caused by a number of problems, such as traction alopecia (frequent tension and pulling on the hair and scalp which causes hair loss), telogen effluvium (hair loss brought on by a sudden stressful or traumatic event), diffuse hair loss (sometimes caused by a poor diet), and alopecia areata (sudden patchy hair loss possibly caused by the presence of chemicals, hormones, or allergies).

Baldness and thinning in women is treated the same way as it is in men – with a combination of specialized shampoos and other therapies. People that suffer from weak or especially thin hair may also benefit from a treatment which contains keratinic lipo-amino-acids, which can reconstruct the hair and stimulate growth.
